The prestigious and glamorous 2020 Humanitarian Awards Ghana announced its winners on Saturday, 3rd October at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra.
The awards ceremony aims at identifying, recognizing and Award extraordinary individuals and groups who are positively impacting the lives of people, nature and society in Ghana and beyond.
Believing that in putting the spotlight on these individuals and non-profit organisations it will not only celebrate them but also build a strong platform for them by giving a voice and opportunities whilst building a positive attitude in making this world a better place.
Richard Offei was presented with a plaque “for the distinguished and exceptional achievements towards improving the lives of others and human welfare.
Richard Offei is the Founder and President of Richoff Disability Foundation and Ghana Dreams Disability Development Foundation. He was a former Liberty Professionals Football club player who started his football career with Michael Essien. After meeting with a tragic motor accident which led to the amputation of a leg, he was neglected by family and the society and had no place to stay. This led to his residing and surviving on the streets. However, he had the opportunity to meet a former president of Ghana, H.E John Agyekum Kuffour, in the year 2001 who assisted him to secure employment with Ghana Cocoa Board where he worked for about 12 years. He also managed to join the Ghana Amputee National team in the year 2003 and through hard work and determination, became captain of the team and led the team to various tournaments including the United Kingdom (UK), France, Turkey and Argentina for the Amputee World Championship.
After retiring from the National Amputee Team, he decided to use his outfit to support and develop people living with disabilities in Ghana. Mr. Richard Offei has the passion and love for persons living with disabilities. He is blessed with a divine gift to be able to create job opportunities for persons with disabilities and the youth.
